Customers are blown away. It’s like I’m telling them how to get to Mars in 10 minutes. At first, they don’t know what I’m talking about. Then, when they see how Endurant colorants look, the enthusiasm is quite something.  ~Terry Ryan, owner of New England Arborists & NEA Spray

Why did you consider using colorants for turf or mulch in your business?

The idea came to me as a lot of people are leaving Connecticut and much of the New England Arborists entire service area, which also includes much of New York and Massachusetts. (Learn more about these moving market trends in this article.) Losing some of my customer base, including people who looked to me for insect and disease protection or recovery for their trees, I knew I wanted to diversify the products and services we offered. This is such a new product for our region. It is exhilarating to introduce something new to the landscapes here. I especially looked for something that would offer fast, immediate appeal to people moving. Even if they are staying in the area, a lot of people just want their landscapes to look perfect no matter what it takes, so they can spend their time enjoying Nantucket or Martha’s Vineyard or wherever. This way, whether they are coming or going, their landscape is popping. Instead of spending as much as $5,000 on re-mulching around their house on the mountain, they can avoid the cost and the hauling and the risk to the plant and trees of over-mulching by instead adding colorant. People are spending as much as $100,000 on their landscapes. They don’t want to wait for results. Smaller clients can save money and still get great, instant color that lasts.

So you are helping people who are selling their homes, improving curb appeal and real estate values?

Yes. And being a state with four seasons, it’s such a short growing season here, depending upon how the winter goes. People tend to get depressed. They just want color. Patience becomes thin. Freshening up the mulch is great for curb appeal. For turf professionals, we know it takes time to get a lawn looking a certain way. New England homeowners want instant results. Endurant colorants provide that. For the real estate market, if people are flipping houses or selling homes, in one hour they get to see benefits that would otherwise take weeks or months to get.

What responses do you hear about the look of Endurant colorants on mulch and turfgrass lawns?

Customers are blown away. It’s like I’m telling them how to get to Mars in 10 minutes. At first, they don’t know what I’m talking about. Then, when they see how Endurant colorants look, the enthusiasm is quite something. We can give mulch a look like the most expensive mulch, an Eastern hemlock for example, for a fraction of the cost. We are able to tune up and brighten up a property immediately with same day results that last.
