'Greenest' Game on Grass Gets Greener with Endurant

Agronomists talk about how to choose the best turf paint at TPC Scottsdale, host of the Waste Management Phoenix Open. The course gets tournament- and TV-ready using Endurant turf colorant and has tried them all.

The Phoenix Open is sometimes called the "greenest game on grass" because of the environmental strides taken by the PGA and coordinating organizations. But also, TPC Scottsdale shows off a natural and vibrant shade of green enhanced by Endurant turf colorants for high definition television (HDTV) at WMPO.

As the TPC Scottsdale Stadium Course undergoes renovations, including at famous hole No. 16, before the 2022 Waste Management Phoenix Open, Geoponics, the makers of Endurant, stopped by to hear about the project and the organization's use of Endurant over the years.

Phoenix Open Is TV Ready with Endurant Colorants

As TPC Scottsdale prepared for the Waste Management Phoenix Open beginning February 1, Geoponics did its part to get the course TV-ready with Endurant turf colorants. [caption id="attachment_1529" align="alignleft" width="262"] WM Phoenix Open gets TV-Ready with Endurant for one of golf's most environmentally-concsious events[/caption] The Phoenix Open began Monday, February 1 and continues through February 7, 2021. The course is one of many to choose Endurant early in the colorants' availability on the market, more than 10 years ago, due to Endurant's natural tone, non-toxic ingredients and staying power. What's giving TPC Scottsdale that particular gorgeous green this year?

"The People's Open" uses a combination of Endurant Fairway and Endurant Turf Enhancer. Endurant FW is a paint and Endurant TE is a pigment. Each colorant has its own unique benefits and tone. Endurant FW was originally formulated for fairways, giving the name, and TE is formulated for actively growing grass.  TE enhances existing pigment and FW adds a rich, dark green to either dormant or non-dormant grass. The event's Stadium course is now TV ready. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the event will not host hundreds of thousands of people this year, but will still be a sizable event with an even larger TV-viewing audience. The event is scheduled to air on GOLF and NBC Thursday through Sunday. Organizers laude the event this year and past years:

"'The People’s Open' was named the Tournament of the Year by the PGA TOUR four times in the past six years (2014, 2015, 2018, 2019) to acknowledge the tournament’s legendary status as one the most unique events in golf. The 2021 edition will mark the 86th playing of the event (one of the five oldest events on the PGA TOUR) and the 12th as the WM Phoenix Open."

Greening Arizona with Endurant Turf Colorant

Painting brown grass green alleviates water demands, appeals to customers

Geoponics Corp visited Arizona to teach turfgrass colorant science and application techniques. These demos and seminars were primarily given to professionals who had already come across the benefits of painting grass in general, such as decreased water usage compared with other growing methods, and who are aware of Endurant turf colorants as the leading brand for its durability, natural look and non toxic ingredients. Two of Geoponics technical experts visited Geoponics' master distributor on the West Coast, Fertizona. Geoponics prides itself in the product lines, which include the Endurant landscape colorants line, as well as a line of soil surfactants and other tools that help growers and property managers address their challenges while being environmentally-conscious. Along with those products, Geoponics is a leader in education, which was a large part of the visit to Arizona.

Geoponics' turf experts spend a week in Arizona:

• Showing landscaping companies how to paint grass
  • A lot of the grass in AZ is overseeded.
  • Many lawns are not overseeded.
  • Arizona's grass is mostly dormant Bermuda grass in the wintertime, whether on a golf course or a lawn.
  • So, if the grass is not overseeded, then it is brown in winter.
  • Overseeded grass may have transition challenges where a turf pigment (Endurant TE), grass paint (Endurant FW, PR or Premium) or a combo, such as the hybrid pigment and paint Endurant Flex, can be help.
• Provided demos and seminars with Genesis Landscape among other companies, as well as HOAs to reduce water usage and overhead costs while maintaining green grass in home lawns and home owners' associations' common areas.

• How to use the wheel sprayer
  • A wheel sprayer makes painting edges easier, faster and more accurate:
    • There is no need to have another person hold a piece of cardboard or another object to help create the paint line.
    • Prevents overspray of paint on nearby surfaces, such as concrete, pavers or other unwanted areas (pre-wetting the unpainted edge also helps)
    • Creates ideal lines for a professional finish

• Visited with golf courses using the product this year
  • Some used Endurant instead of overseed
  • Some used Endurant in a practice called hybrid overseeding to enhance the color of the overseed
• Prepared for televised events, including the 2021 WasteManagement Phoenix Open at TPC Scottsdale (See our next blog for more)
  • TPC Scottsdale uses a combination of Endurant FW and Endurant TE to get TV-ready
  • This combination of colorants, the Endurant Fairway paint mixed with the Endurant Turf Enhancer pigment, makes for a uniquely TPC Scottsdale look that appears nearly flawless under the scrutiny of high definition television (HDTV)
  • Increasing distribution options in the West
    • Created a new retail alliance with Sprinkler World to carry Endurant products.
    • Geoponics is looking for new distribution channels to open in Arizona in the coming months for landscaping, sports turf and golf courses
    • Landscape companies in Arizona are expressing lots of interest in Endurant
    • Geoponics values its master distributor in Arizona, New Mexico and California, Fertizona
• Traveling to clients this year was a little different because of the Covid-19 pandemic, but Geoponics still visited with several golf courses that used the product and they are really pleased with how Endurant works
