From Super to SiteOne: The Benefits of Endurant

SiteOne Highlights the Benefits of Endurant Landscape Colorants

Joel Beason was a golf course superintendent for 10 years before joining SiteOne Landscape Supply as a sales representative. He has been with SiteOne for more than two years, now.

“I’m focused on applications versus install of plants. So, chemicals, fertility products, control products, that’s my line within SiteOne,” said Beason.

He was the superintendent at Moore’s Mill Club in Auburn, Alabama. There, Beason managed turf grass that did not go 100 percent dormant in winter.

Former superintendent of Moore's Mill Club in Alabama used Endurant pigments and paints before joining SiteOne sales.

SiteOne: Endurant Is the Best Turf Colorant, including Endurant grass pigments and grass paints

Beason is experienced in using both pigments, such as Endurant TE, and paints, including Endurant Premium. Now, Endurant has a brand new product, a hybrid of pigment and paint, Endurant FLEX. The other Endurant turf grass colorant options include the original Endurant TC, Endurant FW (Fairway) and Endurant PR (Perennial Rye). Mulch and tree colorants also have their benefits.

“If we had an unusually cold winter or cold snap, often in the January or February timeframe, we could be on the brink of complete dormancy. Then, we made paint applications,” said Beason.

For the purposes of the Alabama golf club, he used a combination of pigments and paints but only on the greens. He did not use them on fairways and tees at that time.

“When I was at that golf course is when Endurant became popular on social media,” he said.

“We did our research and like everyone was saying, the superintendents and everyone, the consensus was that Endurant was the top of the line when picking brands,” said Beason.

SiteOne: Endurant is the best turf colorant for longevity and service

Other benefits of Endurant include the ideal shades of green provided by the colorant. Secondly, Endurant offers longevity of color. Third, the service from Geoponics, the makers of Endurant is the best in the field, said Beason.

Application tips and other advice were easy to come by with Geoponics’ service. This is true whether as a superintendent using Endurant, or now as a salesperson working with Geoponics through SiteOne. Geoponics offers clients the best service possible.

“My go-to Geoponics and Endurant rep Brad [Driggers] is easy to get a hold of, follows up, helps with my clients and pricing and all that goes along with it,” said Beason.

On the golf course, Beason used a mixture of the handgun application technique and the boom spraying method on the greens. He used Endurant Premium, a rich dark shade of green on the Bermuda grass greens, he recalled.

“Selling in a territory where I once worked and having used the product, it really helps selling it,” said Beason.

SiteOne began offering Endurant to customers more than a year ago.

“I was so excited when I found out we would be able to sell it. It’s the most popular product out there. Especially in my area,” said Beason.

Most Endurant customers include golf courses, lawn care operators, universities, high schools and municipalities.

SiteOne: Endurant is the best turf colorant among high profile professionals

University of Alabama really likes the product. Athletic Field Manager Jon Dewitt has been several places and used Endurant everywhere he’s been,” said Beason. “We do a ton of work with Alabama, in Tuscaloosa and with trendsetters having a good influence on others doing sports fields,” said Beason.

We’ve got Kathy Harrison, Supervisor of Athletics, at University of Alabama Birmingham, and the Birmingham Legion pro soccer team, started painting last year with Endurant, he said.

For golf, users look for ways to increase rounds and revenue on the backside, and that can be having the competitive edge of Endurant providing pristine color, getting tournament ready and/or TV ready.

LCOs, landscape operators, benefit from Endurant in multiple scenarios, also in terms of competitive edge, at least in terms of increased curb appeal for their customers. A short term chemical burn or herbicide application gone awry can be masked with Endurant while the grass recovers.

“There is a lot of opportunity,” said Beason.

The most eye-catching and competitive might be the athletic fields. The high profile fields they’re on ESPN and they want to be as green as possible in HDTV (high definition TV).

In transitions, an application of Endurant can help mask that dormant leaf blade as the bright green rye grass comes in as well, said Beason.

We get people enjoying Endurant’s quicker green up of Bermuda in the spring time as the colorant helps hold the heat, bring in that sunlight and naturally boost chlorophyll production for added agronomic benefits as well as aesthetic benefits.

Pinehurst Paints: Using Endurant Turf Colorant

Host of the U.S. Open Is Open About Turf Paint

Pinehurst Chooses Endurant, Year After Year

[caption id="attachment_1417" align="alignleft" width="1000"]Pinehurst No. 2 5th Hole Pinehurst.com Pinehurst, established in 1894, the host of the 2014 and 2024 US Opens, uses Endurant turf colorants to aid in providing its consistent natural look and ideal playing conditions all year long for the past 10 years. Take a look at the 5th Hole on famous Pinehurst No. 2 . Credit: Pinehurst.com[/caption]

The Beginning

The year was 2010 and John Jeffreys, now Golf Course Superintendent of Pinehurst No. 2, was experimenting with the use of turf colorants. Pinehurst Resort and Country Club in Pinehurst, North Carolina is one of the top rated golf courses in the world. Still, they experienced a common problem of some yellowing grass creating an eyesore. Jeffreys thought he’d cover the yellowing turf with some grass paint to result in the best look with the least disruption in play. The choice came with guidance from Pat O’Brien of the USGA, and marked when Pinehurst made the permanent change from overseed to painting.
“We couldn’t continue with overseeding and provide the firm and fast conditions, which is how course No. 2 is supposed to play,” said Jeffreys.
[caption id="attachment_1413" align="alignleft" width="660"]Pinehurst No. 2 Clubhouse Endurant turf colorant Pinehurst No. 2 Clubhouse[/caption]

The Top Course Isn’t Top Secret About Endurant as the Best Paint

After experimenting with multiple brands, it was Endurant, which is produced by Geoponics, that provided the best results, said Jeffreys. Pinehurst doesn’t keep their methods of golf course management private or secret. Instead, Pinehurst is known for hosting USGA workshops on best practices. “We want everybody to succeed, whether it’s cultural practices, painting or whatever it may be,” said Jeffreys. Also, Pinehurst was immediately open with their members.
“We let everyone know, we don’t have to overseed anymore,” said Jeffreys.
The primary benefit to painting is that it provided better year round playing conditions. Using Endurant allowed all of the Pinehurst golf courses to have color without the disruptive late September overseed, said Jeffreys. No more overwatering to cause soggy, soft conditions in September. Instead, painting in October and November allows continual play throughout fall with ideal conditions.

Players Respond to Paint

Pinehurst hosts players from throughout the world. “We had members arrive the first week in December and ask us, ‘when are you going to paint?’ But we’ve already painted,” said Jeffreys. “We’re not trying to fool them, but it’s really eye opening. They don’t know and that’s the goal,” he said. The intent is to provide consistent playing experiences and golf course aesthetic from course to course, season to season and year to year. So the golf course in the summer can hardly be distinguished from the golf course in the winter, he said.
“We don’t want them to ask, ‘when did you paint?’ We do not want them to say, ‘your paint looks good.’ We want them to say, ‘your course conditions are excellent,’” said Jeffreys.
Endurant ensures Pinehurst accomplishes those intentions. Pinehurst maintains its look while improving playability using Endurant on the courses that have been dubbed Perfectly Imperfect” for maintaining their natural look, which is also a testament to what Endurant organic colorants are meant to be able to provide, running the spectrum from the “see it from the moon, wow factor” aesthetic to the can’t tell the difference between natural green chlorophyll, overseed and the Endurant paint. That range of possibilities is made possible by the customization options of the several shades of Endurant turf colorants. [caption id="attachment_1414" align="alignleft" width="660"]Pinehurst No. 2 Uses Endurant on dormant Bermuda as Liquid Overseed For the past 10 years, Pinehurst No. 2 Uses Endurant turf colorant on dormant Bermuda grass as Liquid Overseed.[/caption]

Endurant Endures

So, not only does Endurant endure as a best practice through the years, as Pinehurst has been using Endurant for 10 years, but the reason that Pinehurst superintendents chose Endurant after trying several brands, is because the color lasts. “If you try a different brand, you’ll know you didn’t get the right paint when it looks good the first day and five days later it looks like garbage,” said Jeffreys. He warns following his own trials: “If you spend less, you can guess you’ll be getting 5 percent of the product.”
“We chose Endurant primarily because of the longevity of the color. It stays green longer. When it fades, it fades green. Otherwise, with other brands, it fades blue, becomes chalky looking or fades quickly,” Jeffreys said. “Endurant fades on tone. It doesn’t go changing color. So that is a big thing for us,” he added.

Additional Colorant Benefits: Help During Covid 19

In addition to better playability and improved aesthetic, using Endurant turf colorants allowed a savings in water usage and decreased usage of herbicide, reported Jeffreys. “It’s certainly been a positive for us a long time, but it was really exaggerated this year,” he said. In 2020, the lack of overseed was a particular blessing. “I really don’t know what we would have done if we’d have overseeded,” he said. Due to the risk of spreading Covid-19 coronavirus during the international pandemic, Pinehurst had fewer people to do the work necessary to maintain an overseeded property.
“Endurant provides a really huge business savings to have the flexibility,” said Jeffreys. “This past spring, we didn’t have to deal with rye grass that we had to continually mow when we cut the staff from 40 to five.”
He added, “It was a warm year. We were mowing Bermuda grass early. So, I can’t imagine if it was rye grass.” [caption id="attachment_1416" align="alignleft" width="660"]Pinehurst hosts USGA colorant seminar Pinehurst always looks to share golf industry knowledge, here hosting the 2018 USGA colorant seminar[/caption]

The Pinehurst Look and Preparing for the U.S. Open

“We are definitely fortunate we had gotten paint a long time ago. It’s been a game changer for us, extending the fall season without disruption and the spring,” said Jeffreys. While Endurant can provide different styles and aesthetics from the look of Augusta to the look of Pinehurst, Jeffreys has learned several tips and tricks from what works at Pinehurst, and some that are universal. “We’re not top secret by any means here,” said Jeffreys. The nine golf courses of Pinehurst all use paint instead of overseed and strive for consistency from course to course. The business savings flexibility provided by Endurant is maintained year to year allowing the colorant to be used in various ways. “You can do the transition aids (learn about the new Endurant Flex) and pigment (Endurant TE) and continually maintain color if financially that’s a viable option,” Jeffreys suggested. Or, he suggested, you can go completely dormant and paint. The Pinehurst way of doing things entails a modest green color. “It’s a Bermuda grass color for us. Even in the summer, we’re not really, really green. We’re not irrigating for color. We’re irrigating to keep the grass alive The more we can match that summer look in the winter, the better,” said Jeffreys. He laughed. “We didn’t want shock and awe. We didn’t want planes getting all distracted.” “Instead, just a hint of green to differentiate native areas and bunkers is what really works here,” he added. Because the properties of Pinehurst are adjoining, there is a goal to keep the look among the nine courses cohesive. Just as Endurant prepared Pinehurst for the 2014 U.S Open, Jeffreys already has his sights on their next year to host the 2024 U.S. Open. The budget increases with the U.S. Open, so painting can be utilized for TV Ready turf leading up to the big event, Jeffreys forecasts. How to Paint: A Few Specific Tips from Pinehurst

  • Spray early in the morning when either frost or dew is present
  • Expect a short window from about 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
  • Fill and prepare the night before
  • Be flexible and know you might not paint the day you expected. “Instant gratification can lead to instant frustration” if you don’t have patience.
  • Ensure the only thing on the ground that morning is the sprayer.
  • Allow plenty of time to clean up.
  • Consider testing the sprayer on a parking lot to ensure even distribution.
  • If it’s your first time, consider applying in a more discreet spot than an elevated tee, off the road, or at the clubhouse.

Introducing New Endurant Flex Turf Colorant

Geoponics, the maker of Endurant professional turf colorants, introduces the new hybrid Endurant Flex, specially formulated for transitions and transition zones, among other uses.

Flex Your Turf

Endurant Flex turf colorant

What makes Endurant Flex different?

Endurant Flex combines the benefits of a pigment, such as Endurant TE for actively growing grass, with the benefits of a paint, such as Endurant TC and the other shades of Endurant paint, which are formulated for excellent pigmentation of dormant turf. With Endurant Flex turf colorant, you get the benefits of a pigment with the benefits of a paint for those in between times and those in between zones, among other applications. [video width="848" height="352" mp4="https://turfpaint.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/VIDEO-2020-08-17-11-14-09.mp4"][/video]

Why Flex? Why now?

Geoponics launches their newest product, Endurant Flex, as Endurant turf colorant celebrates its 10th Anniversary of painting grass. Ten years ago, Endurant became the professional's choice for adding color to turgrass at times when chlorophyll was naturally lacking, such as in seasonal dormancy of warm season grass species, including Bermuda grass. This practice of painting grass using Endurant was implemented to provide a great look and to conserve water, avoid harsh chemical usage, minimize labor expenses, improve transitions between warm and cool season grasses and increase playability on golf courses. For golf course superintendents specifically, using Endurant on the dormant turf not only added color, it provided the firm and fast playing conditions as preferred by golfers. Still, there are transitions and times overseed is still used and those are among the times to Flex. [caption id="attachment_1387" align="aligncenter" width="660"]Before and after photos show Endurant turf colorant on dormant warm season turfgrass. Before and after photos show Endurant turf colorant on dormant warm season Bermuda grass.[/caption] One of the challenges for some golf course superintendents, landscapers and turfgrass managers remains managing the transitions and transition zones, efficiently, economically, aesthetically and with optimal results agronomically-- all while providing optimal playing surfaces when applicable to golf courses and athletic fields. Whether it's the time of year when turfgrass is transitioning from actively growing grass to dormant turf or the other way around, when dormant turf is on its way back in growing and producing chlorophyl, these in between times call for a flexible product, one that is in between two of Endurant's fan favorites-- Endurant turf paints and Endurant TE pigment.

The Art and Science of Painting Grass

One of Nation’s Top Turf Painters Shares Endurant Turf Painting Tips

Full interview with Jason Sanderson, Golf Course Superintendent Knoxville, Tennessee Across the nation, and even the world, a few people have taken the simplicity of painting grass and turned it into an art. Among these master painters of turf is Jason Sanderson, golf course superintendent of Cherokee Country Club in Knoxville, Tennessee. Painting turf grass to conserve water, seed and chemical usage is increasingly common. Also, painting grass to improve the game and aesthetics of a golf course continues to draw users to the top-rated colorant on the market, Endurant turf paint. [caption id="attachment_1368" align="aligncenter" width="600"]Showing off the art and science of painting grass with Endurant turf colorants is Jason Sanderson of Cherokee Country Club in Knoxville, Tennessee Cherokee Country Club looks gorgeous year round as Golf Course Superintendent Jason Sanderson uses Endurant turf paint to get winter wow factor, color that pops and to avoid transition challenges.[/caption] Using Endurant turf colorants as directed is easy and leads to success. Still, some users of Endurant have found ways to make the colorant fit their needs to a T. In fact, the first area of the golf course that Sanderson ever painted were his tees. Often, golfers and members didn’t know they were painted and instead thought they were overseeded. “Then someone noted how good the tees looked and asked, ‘well, why can’t we paint the whole golf course?’ ...So, we gave it a try,” recalled Sanderson. That was 2010 and he’s been painting the course ever since.

Cherokee Country Club is the oldest club in Knoxville, founded in 1907. It’s a Donald Ross links style golf course. It’s a small property of only about 90 acres. It’s a par 70, and rated one of the best courses in the area.

About Jason Sanderson

Having worked more than 20 years on the Cherokee Country Club property, Jason Sanderson was the assistant golf course superintendent for six years and has been superintendent for 16 years.

About Endurant Turf Paint

Endurant turf paint is celebrating its 10th Anniversary and Sanderson is celebrating his 10th year painting grass, having tried almost every turfgrass colorant, paint and pigment on the market over the course of those years. Endurant was launched by Geoponics in 2010 with one paint colorant, Endurant TC; then added a pigment, Endurant TE, for actively growing grass, before adding different shades of green formulated for the best coordination of various turfgrass species. Sanderson Creates His Own Painting Process

The first year Sanderson used grass paint was as an alternative to overseed. “I overseeded some tees for a few years with limited success. I really didn’t like the transition to the Bermuda grass in the summer. In June, our tees were terrible,” Sanderson said. He tried six to seven different paints before deciding Endurant turf colorant was the best choice. “Some paints are too thick. They’re difficult on equipment, on the sprayers and trying to get them clean as they caked up was a problem. The biggest problem though was fading and fading to blue. We put it down green and then it faded to blue and looked terrible,” Sanderson said of other brands. The best thing about Endurant is the natural-looking color and its lasting properties-- it's called Endurant for a reason. The color endures.

“The Reasons I Do Things the Way I Do:”

1.  It’s a lot of money we spend; it’s someone else’s money; and, if we’re going to spend that money, it’s got to be right. 2. I’m a tinkerer by nature. I like to get things right and just the way that I like them. 3. I went to a USGA seminar with Rob Vaughan in Atlanta and I had just started using the Endurant the year before. (Read about turf painting as recommended by the USGA here with the “One and Done” Spraying Method and in other workshops on USGA.org.

Tees Lead to Fairways to Heaven, and Beyond

“I wanted to start spraying more than tees,” said Sanderson. Not only did he try different paint brands, he also tried different approaches, including varying water volumes, gallons per acre, different nozzles and different speeds. “One fairway had 16 gallons per acre on it,” he exclaimed. “I was trying to figure out the way it looked best for us and the way we could still get it done in a timely manner,” said Sanderson. As a private course that’s closed on Monday, Monday became paint day. On the first experimental application of turf colorant on the entire course, of the 18 fairways, Sanderson said four looked gorgeous, 10 looked great and the other 4 looked okay. “Those fairways that looked great in December when we first painted them, still looked phenomenal in March,” said Sanderson. So, the club decided to continue doing what worked best, and apply Endurant to the whole course going forward. Perfect Paint Job

Sanderson recommends beginning with using the product per product guidelines as a starting point. Then, in time, users may find ways to tweak the usage to suit their specific goals even more, depending on their priorities and conditions. “You can do what I do, and it will look great, but it might not be exactly what you want,” said Sanderson. “Everyone’s golf course is a little different. Everyone’s Bermuda is a little different color,” he added. What works at Cherokee Country Club: - Brand: Endurant by Geoponics - Color: Endurant FW - Rate: 8 gallons per acre - Application: Two applications at 4 gallons per acre each; one in each direction - Nozzles: Dual fan nozzles (rather than flat fan nozzles) - Conditions: Frost on grass blades, if possible Although Sanderson understands the attraction of the “one and done” method, he has a preference for layered applications. Optimally, he applies two applications, one in each direction, for a richer color, ideal coverage and longevity, reporting painting in December that still looks great in March.

Perfect Play: Increased Playability

Overseed never worked on the golf course, Sanderson said. It led to soft and slow conditions-- the opposite of ideal. "It’s hard in the winter to get it to play hard and fast. With overseed, it’s impossible. With Endurant, the playability is great. We’re on an all-Bermuda golf course,” said Sanderson Endurant increases aesthetic appeal, contrast and definition, he adds. Without paint, the golf course is entirely brown. “The Endurant really makes the golf course pop,” he said. "In a field where we're constantly trying to one up each other, the Endurant really set us apart." Read More

Endurant User Among First to Show Off Painted Grass

Ahead of His Time: Golf course superintendent among first to paint grass in Nevada

Full interview with Mike Donahue, Superintendent, Las Vegas Growing grass out west is a whole new ball game with Endurant. Reducing water, labor and chemical usage, Endurant users overcome the oddity of the idea of painting grass for an overall win. Some pockets of the country and the world have been painting grass for years, while for others the practice is new. Among those to first combat the question in the Western U.S. of “why in the world would you paint grass?!” was Mike Donahue, of Las Vegas, Nevada. “People often do things just because it’s the way we’ve always done them,” says Donahue, as he shows off one of the courses he manages. [caption id="attachment_1346" align="aligncenter" width="660"]Mike Donahue, Golf Course Superintendent, Las Vegas, Nevada Mike Donahue, Golf Course Superintendent, Las Vegas, Nevada uses Endurant Turf Colorants instead of overseed.[/caption] Now, as Endurant is celebrating its 10th Anniversary and is about to kick off a contest where turfgrass professionals show off their courses and the benefits of using Endurant, we take a look back at the painting experiences shared by Donahue over the past couple of years. “I don’t think there’s a superintendent in the United States who actually wants to overseed,” says Donahue. “It’s hard on equipment, hard on the guys; the weather is always fluctuating. Nobody really wants to overseed,” he says. What’s interesting is that some people will keep overseeding simply because it’s always the way things were done. Also, there is a perception out there that painting isn’t natural and thus less environmentally friendly. Actually, Endurant organic turf paints present huge savings in water usage and in harsh chemical usage. “I spend more money on water in a month than I spend on paint all year,” says Donahue. While some superintendents may be reluctant to try painting grass, poor turf quality due to overseed led Donahue to easily make the switch. “This is links golf, so in the winter, I want it firm and fast. I want the ball to bounce and roll. I don’t need to overseed to get that,” says Donahue. “Using Endurant on Bermuda grass, the ball runs,” he adds. [caption id="attachment_1341" align="aligncenter" width="660"]Endurant Turf Colorant pops on dormant Bermuda grass in Las Vegas, Nevada Endurant Turf Colorant pops on dormant Bermuda grass in Las Vegas, Nevada[/caption] While almost all players, members, owners and managers enjoy the benefits, every once in a while a player questions the use of paint on grass. There’s often a relief once there’s an understanding that the grass is still real, it’s still very alive and the usage of the Endurant colorant requires fewer resources while improving playability. Much more work, water and chemical treatment goes into overseeding with rye grass compared with painting a dormant Bermuda grass. “Most reviews say it’s great,” says Donahue, who also described Endurant as the “best paint he’s ever used.” The popularity of painting turf differs coast to coast. [caption id="attachment_1344" align="aligncenter" width="660"]Endurant Turf Colorant pops on dormant Bermuda grass in Las Vegas, Nevada In the past few years, painting grass became less of an oddity as west coast turf managers needed creative ways to conserve water. Endurant Organic Turf Colorant is a favorite for its natural color that fades on tone, unlike other brands on the market, retaining a natural shade of green[/caption] “The guys in the Southeast, I see everyone on Twitter painting. Everyone there is doing it, like it’s normal,” said Donahue in 2018, about three years after he began using paint. One of the great benefits to grass paint, in addition to water savings, is avoiding the transition and competition challenges of overseeding. While on one of the courses that Donahue manages, the water comes from a water treatment facility next door offering lower rates, water rates are much more expensive in the area overall. “Go to the valley, where you’re buying city water, I spend $60,000, $70,000, $80,000 a month on city water,” says Donahue. So with rising water costs, users of Endurant began sprouting up all over the valley in the past two to three years especially.

Life Before Painting with Endurant

Donahue used to put out seed at the end of August, when it was about 110 F. “I would get about two weeks, so my overseed was always marginal at best. The vast majority of the golf courses are in the same boat here," said Donahue All that labor and expense of overseed was to avoid the look of dormant Bermuda, but benefits were really only seen for a few weeks. “As a superintendent here, if I can keep my Bermuda green until mid-November and I’m greening up in February—or say even mid-November to mid-March—you’re still only talking three to four months. What’s the point of overseeding?” he continued. [caption id="attachment_1342" align="aligncenter" width="660"]Endurant turf paint Endurant adds wow factor to dormant turf grass, saving money, water and time while decreasing transition challenges and increasing playability.[/caption] If you overseed, it tears up the course and it’s closed for three to four weeks. Then it re-opens with cart-path only traffic and playing conditions aren’t great. His golf course is as busy or more in the summer as it is in the winter and the summer conditions were notoriously poor after overseeding because the transitions were so bad, he said. Transitioning from Overseed to Painting “Superintendents are converting to paint due to water. Between cost, transition issues and really the fact you overseed for no reason,” says Donahue. “I need the grass to be good for 12 months. By painting, I’ve eliminated transition issues. My Bermuda stand is better. It greens up faster,” he adds. As the industry adage goes, "the better your overseed, the worse your transition, and the worse your overseed, the better your transition." “To get a good overseed you’ve got to beat up the Bermuda. Bermuda doesn’t like to be beat up here,” says Donahue. Nearby superintendents are also painting on Bermuda, as well as on bentgrass greens. A few will still overseed. Sure overseeded rye grass can be pretty and fluffy, says Donahue. “Look at it in terms of playability. I’d put the greens painted with Endurant up against any greens. They’re that good and they’re dormant. People don’t even know it’s not overseed,” said Donahue. “You can’t tell me fluffed up rye grass is a better surface. The ball rolls faster on a dormant surface. Period. If you manage your Bermuda going into the fall, you can get it so it’s kind of fluffy too,” he said. Greener Grass: Early Green Up Using Endurant Colorant

Endurant has another benefit as the grass recovers sooner after winter dormancy. Green up begins in February after using Endurant FW or darker. Chlorophyll increased and active growth continued with recovery by April instead of May. “The darker paint does bring in more heat, a few more degrees, “ said Donahue. As he showed off one of the best pictures of turf paint looking like overseed, he shares a highlight from a February a couple years back: “We had a defined and clean rough, too,” Donahue described. “I want to make sure people don’t ever question what we’re doing here. I want people to see. Look at this viable option of Endurant,” he said. Read More

Study tracks staining of turf colorant on clothes

Kansas State University recently conducted a study on whether turf colorants stained clothes more than untreated grass. The findings were favorable for Endurant turf colorant users who experience no additional staining on clothes from marks made with grass treated with Endurant versus untreated grass. [caption id="attachment_1311" align="aligncenter" width="660"]Don't let stains delay the game. Endurant turf colorants won't mark up uniforms the way another top brand does.[/caption] Other brands caused more staining to clothes, including some of the top brands. The field studies of potential clothing blemishes on clothes after athletes contact turfgrass treated with colorants were initiated February 16, 2017. When athletes make contact with the playing surface, colorants will adhere to the turfgras leaf blades. K-State Turfgrass Research published the study in July 2017. The study was led by Jared A Hoyle and Daniele L McFadden of Kansas State University. "Effect of Dormant 'MidIron' Bermudagrass Colorant Applications on Clothing Blemishing" compared the blemishes created by four brands of turf pigments Endurant Premium left the least amount of blemishing, leaving no more blemishing on clothes than untreated turfgrass. Prevent clothes from becoming one big grass stain. Endurant turf colorants won't stain clothes like other brands, University study finds.[/caption] According to the study, a brand called Envy left the most amount of staining on clothing that made contact with turfgrass treated with Envy grass paint. The objective of the research was to determine if turfgrass pigments and paints blemish athletic clothing after the recommended dry time. Endurant turf colorants, created by Geoponics, do not cause additional staining to athletes' clothes when compared with untreated grass. As many athletes' clothes are quite expensive, the benefits for teams can be beyond aesthetic and into economic. We're proud to share the results of the study. Endurant is used throughout the summer on cool and warm season grasses. Endurant is also the first choice for fall color preparations. Endurant turf colorants are popular throughout the year on warm and cool season grasses, but fall is one of the most common times of the year for turfgrass professionals to consider color enhancers as cooler weather will begin to cause grass to lose color and chlorophyl, particularly in warm season grass varieties. Nonetheless, cool season grasses were enhanced by the use of Endurant throughout this summer and leading into fall as well. Turfgrass professionals, Read More
